I enjoyed my time at the DDR Museum it allowed me to understand all the aspects of socialism rather than just the things American capitalist wanted to tell me. Although they may have lived in pretty harsh conditions without much social mobility, these people in the DDR always had enough to eat. Bread was treated like nothing there was an extreme surplus, but meats were a rarity. I also learned that these people were allowed to be nude under the DDR. Even if it was one little freedom, it was a freedom that many people fail to acknowledge when describing the history of the DDR. I believe this is the problem with many of history books. We have this narrative that something was either all good or entirely bad. We can't just accept that all history has positive and negatives no matter who it was or when it was. As a society, we must focus on conveying information without an agenda. Not everything needs to be celebrating or patronizing a particular group of people. History without information like we have in the DDR museum is what leads to even more conflict because we determine on a whim who is good and who is bad. Once we start treating our information as objective, then we can begin to be accepting individuals in every aspect of our society.
