The food in Germany was quite an experience. Since I have celiac’s disease that made it all the more interesting. Celiac’s disease is a disease in which I cannot eat any product which has any remnants of wheat in it. Quite the task studying abroad. For me though I looked at it as just a part of the adventure. When traveling from place to place I had to be on the lookout for eccentric places that might be serving something besides sandwiches or pasta, which seem to be universal staples. I was able to find some fascinating gluten free restaurants that served a variety of things. From delicious wurst and salads all the way to Kangaroo meat! I am normally a pretty picky eater but with this disease in anther country, I had to test the limits of my taste buds. Something that I am so grateful for. Without being forced to try things that initially seem very unappetizing I would never have found much of the fantastic food there is to eat in Germany. Some people may consider my disease a hindrance and argue that it takes away for the adventure of exploring a foreign country, but I believe it made it that much more exciting and fulfilling. That’s why I recommend to people that may have something that holds them back from the full experience in a new place, go for it anyway you really never know what you might find.
