Going to the still mill was an extraordinary experience and something I would recommend to anyone visiting Germany. This world heritage site provided almost a time traveling experience. I was in complete awe, especially because everything had remained untouched after the last day it shut down. The recent shifts work clothes even remained undisturbed through the passing of time. This preservation made It seemed as if we were at the height of German power and efficiency. Being here, you could tell this grand factory is what made Germany tick for so many years. Once walking into this place you could feel the power of industry and human achievement all around. These massive structures provided the ambiance that you could conquer anything. You could master nature, build amazing buildings and weld metal with sheer grit. I was almost unsurprised that Germany had attempted to conquer the world because this massive structure gave off a feeling that they already had. Not only did this structure itself throw you back in history but the tour guide as well. This grizzly, mountain of a man with a rough German voice was absolutely what I Imagined when thinking of a German steelworker. When he told the story of the rise and fall of the steel industry, I became convinced he had lived through it. He looked and sounded like he had been worn and beaten by the harsh environment of boilers throughout the factory.Everything about this place was perfect and made it one of the most real expeditions we went on while in Germany. Before going to this place I would never have even considered it as a list of the things to do in Germany, but if you want to gain a genuine understanding of the conditions and realities of the industrial revolution, you must come here to see this great historic site.
