I loved going out for our hour in the hammock. This adventure added so many new perspectives to my life and allowed me to truly find some peace. People underestimate the real value of complete silence. Not the silence of being on the computer but a time where you are strictly alone to your thoughts. This period of silence in the woods finally gave me some time to reflect truly on my first year of college. I was able to slow down for a moment and take in all the great moments as well as the not so great that occurred while I was at Rhodes this year. There finally wasn’t anyone I had to compare or explain my experiences. I could just look back on the year and consider all events and put my genuine opinion on them which was quite refreshing. I also felt the time alone gave me an opportunity to appreciate nature to the fullest extent. I live out in the country, so I feel that I have taken nature for granted. When I think of Nature, I frequently correlate it to fixing a fence, digging ditches and hauling hay. Our trip was one of the first times I have just sat back and soaked up the absolute beauty that nature can bring to your life. It was one of the most inspiring moments I have ever had and it allowed me to relax much more than I ever had while sitting in my bed on my phone. I truly recommend an individual to take one hour out of their week where they are not allowed to use their phones or talk to anyone. This will provide people an opportunity to clear their mind and get rid of all the pointless distractions that consume much of our life. I honestly believe doing an activity such as this greatly relieves stress and gives you a new perspective on your life as well as an appreciation for beauty in the world around you.
